High productivity in agriculture, especially of rice, allows high population density of countries in the warm and humid area. Other main agricultural products include wheat and chicken. Forestry is extensive throughout Asia, except in Southwest and Central Asia. Fishing is a major source of food in Asia, particularly in Japan.

Asia is the world's largest and most populous continent. It covers 8.6% of the Earth's total surface area (or 29.4% of its land area) and it contains more than 60% of the world's current human population.

As of 2007, the largest national economy within Asia, in terms of gross domestic product, is that of China followed by that of India and Japan. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the economies of China and India have been growing rapidly, both with an average annual growth rate of more than 8%. The rise of the business process outsourcing industry has seen the rise of India and China as other financial centres. Due its large and extremely competitive information technology industry, Bangalore is often dubbed as the Silicon Valley of India.
